One morning, when I scooped a spoon of honey to my metal bowl and was about to dissolve it with water. My landlord’s mum warned me:” You shouldn’t touch honey with metal spoon or bowl because they react.” What? It was my first time of 25 years’ life hearing abt such saying. So now if you also wonder why, my title shouldn’t sound too silly.
I have googled the reasons for this. Here’s the ans.
Honey is acidic with pH value from 3.2 to 4.5, so it will accelerate metal corrosion. That’s why honey spoon is normally made of wood. Similarly, if we eat acidic food with aluminium containers, we will end up with eating aluminium and easily get Alzeheimer.
One more note to take when eating honey: do not mix it with hot water bcoz hot water will destroy the nutrients. So use luke warm or cold water.
Hope now everyone know how to drink honey correctly. ^_^

Well, the truth is, if your spoon is stainless steel, it should be pretty inert anyway. So it will not react readily with the small acidity level of the honey. Unless of course if you are keeping the honey for long term storage in metal containers.
As for hot water, I guess it depends on what kind of honey you have. Raw untreated honey would probably best not to be mixed with hot water. However, most honey we buy from the store have already been heat treated (either to pasteurised or the allow the honey to flow easily for storage), so it is all moot to worry about hot water.
Hope this helps.
